What is a double layer capacitor？
Electrical Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) is a kind of super capacitor and a new type of energy storage device.
Double layer capacitors are between batteries and capacitors, and their enormous capacity can be used as batteries.
Compared to batteries based on electrochemical principles, double layer capacitors have no material changes involved in their charging and discharging processes, so they have characteristics such as short charging time, long service life, good temperature characteristics, energy conservation, and environmental protection.
Double layer capacitors have a very small spacing between the two electrical layers, resulting in a very weak withstand voltage, typically not exceeding 20V. Therefore, they are commonly used as energy storage components for low voltage DC or low-frequency applications.
Double layer capacitors are widely used. Used as a power balance power supply for lifting devices, which can provide power with excessive current; As a vehicle starting power source, it has higher starting efficiency and reliability than traditional batteries, and can completely or partially replace traditional batteries; As a traction energy source for vehicles, it can be used to produce electric vehicles, replace traditional internal combustion engines, and transform existing trolleybuses; Used in military applications to ensure the smooth start-up of tanks, armored vehicles, and other combat vehicles (especially in cold winter), as a pulsed energy source for laser weapons. In addition, it can also be used as energy storage for other electromechanical equipment.
